Note: It's good practice to routinely remove, or unshare, any unnecessary files that you own from your Box account to prevent accidental leaking of sensitive documents.
Cleaning up shared folders:
- You can distinguish which folders are shared if they have this symbol:
Those that aren't shared have a simple folder icon: - When you single-click on the folder, you should see the sharing details on the right. All members who have any access will be listed here along with their permission level.
- If you are the owner, or it is not shared at all, you can safely delete the folder if you no longer need the files in it (and nobody else you shared with needs it). If you are not the owner, it is best not to delete it. Instead you can either remove yourself from the shared file or folder, or contact the owner and say you no longer need it.
Removing yourself from being shared with:- Click the 3 dots -> More Actions ->End Collaboration
This will remove the folder from your view (but not delete the files from the other person's account)
- Click the 3 dots -> More Actions ->End Collaboration
Deleting Files or Folders you own:
- If you need to save a local copy of the file, first click the three dots to the right of the file and folder and click Download and save it to a safe location (for instance your Documents folder)
- To the right of the file or folder, click on the Three Dots and select Trash.
- Items in your trash will be automatically permanently deleted in 1 month. To permanently delete them right away:
- Click the trash folder on the left, then click the Delete All button on the top right.
